I’m going to the Caymans in Sept to get my Advanced Open Water; any recommendations? Suit vs no suit? Any places dive sites there that you recommend once my course is over?

I pretty much only use a skin while in the Caribbean to keep the jellyfish from hitting me. other then that I know it sounds ’touristy’ but going out to stingray city and feeding the stingrays is quit fun. The northwall is probable one of the better places to dive as far as sealife. I have not had a chance to dive little cayman yet though. Have fun with your trip.

Thanks, I do know that we will be going to the west wall, but other than that I’m not sure where they are going to take us during the course. I have already thought about going to where the stingrays are.

I hit all 3 islands and numerous dive sites on the Cayman Aggressor. To sum it up, you cant go wrong with any dive site in the Caymans

There may be some fancy resturants on 7 mile beach that require a suit :)

I’m going to try Guy Harvey’s place, any other suggestions?

There are lots of good places but be warned, Cayman has a very high standard of living and nothing is cheap

I think it was Hammerheads where we had real good fish sandwichs overlooking the mooring field (Atlantis subs and pirate ships) and the price was right, we ended up eating there a few times. There was also another bar on the water about a block away that fed the tarpon every night. These would both be about a mile from Sunset house near Margaritaville and toward 7 mile beach.

I’m going to take my 3mil suit, I tend to get chilly when diving. Plus like BgDmbRngr said, it will help against the jellies!

Have been to the Cayman Islands on a couple of occasions and stayed at all of them. I like the sister islands, all inclusive, relaxing, healthy food and good value. Diving is some of the best in the Carribean at both for different reasons. The Bloody Bay Wall at Little Cayman is a must. Cayman Brac has its own walls and the Wreck of the Tibbets, plus sites like Grunt Valley with abundant fish.

Grand Cayman offers more nightlife and high end restaurants, but we tend to go casual all but one night. Hemmingway’s was our choice for a date night. In Grand Cayman it seems the diving near Gerogetown is not as good as other locations.

Although we had a great dive at Tunnel Cays (Caves). Stayed at Sunset House and enjoyed the convenience of house reef shore diving. - of course had to see the Mermaid.

I lived and worked( at Sunset Divers) in Grand Cayman for two years (1999-2001). Some of the dive sites that are favorite

Devil’s Gotto - shallow dive, but well worth it

Aquarium- lots of fish

Trinty Caves

Orange Canyon - lots of orange sponges

Few dive operations can reach the north side, but if you get there, Babylon shouldnot be missed. Lots of black coral and strawberry baskets.

Sunsets Divers offer the Manta dives - it’s a 3-dive all day dive on, the North Side, weather permitting.

Hope this helps
