We like to joke with new divers telling them to go out and buy a high end BC jacket, then see the light and buy a BP&W and sell the BC for half price on here :)
When I started we dove with horse collars, the tank was on a what was basically a BP
Then Jackets came along. I now have two BP&W’s, a DSS plastic one with 22 pound wing for travel and a 7 pound FredT SS one with 33 pound lift for cold water. The reason your LDS doesn’t push BP’s is they are mix and match, a BP from one manufactuer, a harness from another, a wing from another, hardware from West Marine or DSS and in my case weight pockets from OMS. Those BTW hold my back up light, marker light, strobe, knife, mirror, sausage and jon line.
