Roatan and sand fleas

Headed for Roatan (early planning stages) this fall around Thanksgiving. Anyone have any suggestions? I hear the sand fleas are a real pain and they’re rather immune to regular bug spray. Has anyone had any experience with this? We’re thining CoCoView or Luna or Anthony’s Key. Is there anything special we should know about any of these resorts or Roatan in general?

Sand Flies !!! If ya walk in the sand or no shoes they bite like crazy.. And the bite marks show... Stay out of the dirt and spray off on your legs.. I just love Anthony Key Resort.. It was a lot better then I could have imagined.. Believe me to get the cheapest units that are on top of the hill.. And you have a choice of a/c or not..
The best deal with AKR is the buy one get second 1/2 off.. Its based on the seasonal rate.. If you get buy one get second for free it at prime rate.. So it cheaper with 1/2 off esp. in low season. Air is $700 if your lucky..
You are planning on fall... It rains !! I mean it could rain all week.. The best you’ll get is little rains 10 times a day..

The sand fleas bothered my daughter but not me. A good island strength bug repelent should work.

AKR or CoCo would be my choices for a return trip, I’ve been to Roatan three times. Depending on where you are leaving from look at flying into San Pedro Sula and then to RTB, it was cheaper the last time I was looking but that requires an overnight in San Pedro Sula to make the connection. Check with Roatan.com for packages too.

Hi, I stayed at Fantasy Island, had a great time, great value. Rooms were ok, clean ect. The food was very good. The only negative thing was the dive boats. They were old showing wear. The ladders were not great. The boat I was on broke down 3 times, finally replaced by a boat from coco. The dive masters were very good. I did the shark dive { about $100.00}. Was worth it. Very, Very cool.

Hey i’ve been there 3 times and the sand fleas can be a pain. Take benadrill cream and tablets , it seemed to help my wife from itching at night. My bites did not bother me as much. Look at Luna Beach resort , it is just up the beach from AKR and much smaller and personal but no lost in quality. Have a ball Stoggie.

www.crazyscuba.com has something called CACTUS JUICE spray especially formulated for Roatan bugs. I think in my blogs is the Roatan report, if not I can email it to you if you email me. Also I think I have photos in my photo sections of the damage the bugs did. I had socks on and longsleeved, pants and didn’t go on the beach, and STILL got multilated.

DID go to AKR for the dolphin encounter. fun.

ALSO DO THE ZIPLINE canopy tour, out of this world and very safe. Also in my report
