DiveBuddy Happy Hour (in your neck of the woods)

What do you all think about hosting local DiveBuddy happy hours all over the world? Maybe we can pick a date, once a quarter, that I promote a lot on the site to existing members. Active members in certain areas can volunteer to find a location and be the point-of-contact for each local event. I’ll manage the one in the Houston area! What do you all think? What day, what time? Wouldn’t it be cool if we had a video hook up at each location to talk to other buddies in other parts of the world...now I’m dreamin’.

I am in Jersey, I could do nj or central/south jersey and Philly. maybe you could make several regions and then divide them into districts where the members are and have a district leader

I would love to see a divebuddy "happy hour" at Dadz Bar and Grill in Lumberton, NJ for any Wednesday night. It is there Burger and Bonez special. 35 different items can be placed on the Burger and the Bonez are huge glasses of Beer. Never a bad time.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Each local volunteer could create a local "Event", but it would be neat to tie them into a global "Event" so people can search for a "Happy Hour nearest you!"

I could be talked into running the first one in Las Vegas. Any chance for a "vote" or "survey" feature to get input on dates and locations?

Hmmm, now I’m dreamin’ too:).

Sounds like a great idea to get to know the divers in your area! It would definately break down the barriers that would keep those shy people from diving with someone they met through the internet.

Sounds good to me, Houston or Woodlands. I’ll crosspromote it on CHUM (tho I’ll need to pass it by the board first)

Ilove the idea! However, being the only diver in Ruth, NV that would be a pretty lonley and boring "Happy Hour" for me!!! LOL!!! Seriously tho, I think it is a great idea! If this gets off the ground, perhaps I could do the 250 mile drive to Vegas where there are lots of dive buddies and have a Happy Hour with them.

From mgreenunderwater: I’m definitely in - looking forward to the first H-town Happy Hour. Studies show that accountants and lawyers attend more happy hours than most, so as an auditor, I feel obligated to join in! Sounds like a great way to swap stories and expand our buddy network.

[- Accountant (and former auditor). And yes, that statement is 100% true!!! (Even though studies have also shown that 67.5% of all statistics are make up right there on the spot.) :-D

Anywhere in / around Houston and I’m in. Where are these happy hours going to be found / accessible? On the "Calendar" portion of the site? Is there some way we can subscribe to a "xyz city" happy hour group so that anytime one is set up we get an e-mail about it???

I just added another option to the Show field in our Calendar called "DiveBuddy Events". Anyone that posts an event that is DiveBuddy related, such as these happy hours, should let me know so I can help promote it through this new section.

In response to Fitzy’s request...I also added the ability to Subscribe to a member’s events. So when someone volunteer’s to be the host of DiveBuddy happy hours in their area...other members can subscribe to their events to receive automatica updates.

Members can also view/subscribe to another members event rss feed. If you use an rss reader like Google Reader...you can add a member’s event rss feed so you receive updates that way. Here is a link for more information on divebuddy event rss feeds:

I’m in to host San Francisco and my non-diving tech-savy husband would love to do the computer on line thingy you want. Let me know if this looks like a go.
