Between weather, vis obserations, and personal commitments we stay flexable.
Tanks, some of us have extra. Divers Two is a good shop in Avon-by-the-Sea.
A local dive shop to you might be more convient for dropping off and picking up.

Speaking of extra tanks, I’ve been cleaning out the garage and have an old pair of US Diver fins, usually referred to as Jets, a book and a 50th anniversary Skin Diver if anyone want’s them. I’ll bring them to the next meet-up

Your diving plans sound interesting, I too am looking for a shore dive this weekend. Besides the details you will specify when you draw up plans later in the week, do you guys have any pre-requisites prior to accepting someone along with you. I haven’t been diving in a couple of years. Mostly due to the fact I have few diving enthusiasts amongst my friends. This being said I did dive a fair amount previously to this dry spell and I have an Advanced Open Water Certification. I’m actively looking for some renewed activity on this front, so whilst i’d like to find a good group where people are friendly enough to point out I put my BCD on back to front, I’m also looking for a fun environment where I can get several dives in before the change of season.

If you guys are diving this Sunday I am definitely interested.

Ian,
We always welcome new divers.
The BC put on backwards would allow you to fit right in.

Sunday I am thinking of doing the Shark river inlet.
Go in under the bridge on the North side.
You should have your wieghts correct before that dive.
We jump in and climb out on the rocks.
This dive can start at 5:30 to be legal.

Sunday’s dive plans sound like just the ticket with late Saturday dinner plans in the making. This being said weight accuracy cannot be guaranteed since this will be my first dive in a long while and ill be renting some of my gear until I complete my own set. So the launch site circumstances being a concern makes sense, in that case we can aim for another weekend no problem.

PS: I hear rumors NJ has some peculiar rules such as extra reserve tanks. Any idea where I may read up in this type of thing in order to better ready myself should the issue pop up?

Ian,
You should dive Maclarie park. It is the most forgiving dive and good for getting gear and divers organized.
Next weekend High tide is around 11.

Dive boats will require spare air on dives over 60’.

Yes, if you are doing a boat dive offshore most boats/clubs will require a pony bottle or independant doubles, the deeper the wreck the bigger the pony. Any NJ LDS will rent you those.

The other rule you need to watch for on shore dives is in Shark River inlet, because of summer boat traffic all dives are dusk to dawn. Maclearie Park is not in the inlet but you are just up river from a boat ramp at L Street so you need to watch for boat traffic.

Tides for Shark River Hills starting with July 30, 2016.

Day High Tide Height Sunrise Moon Time % Moon
/Low Time Feet Sunset Visible

Sa 30 High 5:04 AM 4.5 5:53 AM Rise 2:44 AM 19
30 Low 11:24 AM 0.0 8:12 PM Set 5:25 PM
30 High 5:33 PM 5.4

Su 31 Low 12:18 AM 0.0 5:54 AM Rise 3:39 AM 11
31 High 6:06 AM 4.6 8:11 PM Set 6:22 PM
31 Low 12:19 PM -0.1
31 High 6:30 PM 5.5

I’ll be diving the park tonight entering around 5pm. I’ll bring my extra weights in case you show up, are fins one of the things you would be renting because I have a pair you can have.

I may not make it tonight but plan to be at Sunday meet.

I have anything but tanks and weights.

What do you recommend for wet suit ?

Juan,
If we dive tomorrow (rain and T’Strms ???) inlet or Maclearie Park , I would use a 3mm.

Only 3 divers in Maclearie Park Saturday night, I was expecting a crowd. Crab orgy going on about 200’ NW of steps covering an area about 30’ in diameter and 3 or 4 deep

From BeekeeperGreg: Ray, Last week the orgy was starting. What was the Vis? Greg

5’ probably because of all the rain this week and it was overcast so a bit gloomy but the good part was there were only two other divers in and I think they entered from L Street so nothing being finned up near me :)

So the crabs can go for more than 3 minutes!
