This diver was stranded during a dive with his family. What measures do you take to prevent this?

I found the comments to the video more interesting.

From Tony_B: Spearfishing with no buddy on a deep drift dive. 35 years? hmm.

I’ve seen this before off Jupiter, diveboat drops solo spearo and we pick them up on the way back. Great that they don’t want anyone within range of their speargun but if they have a medical issue or the crap hits the fan they are SOoL :(

He did say he is buying a radio now! That’s the one piece of gear I’m missing too :(

I’m sure that’s the radio he was talking about in the TV interview, no other VHF radios are depth rated and would need to be carried in a cannister. I’ve been thinking about adding one for offshore dives and it could also be used in my sailboat.

I carry an ACR PLB in a depth rated canister on most dives.

From ram04769: As mentioned, I would start with a marker buoy.

Good Start !!!
