Destin Lionfish Report

The lionfish are getting thicker off of Destin this fall. We speared these on one of Destin’s many wrecks. This was not a private spot, but a pretty popular spot know as the Monica. We are planning to continue this work all winter on all of our honey holes to make room for the native fish.

Here is a video of the dive.

Awesome haul guys! Thanks for getting those invaders out of our waters!

There is a petition for a lionfish population control pilot program proposal on the Emerald Coast Reef Association website that would help get 25,000 lionfish out of the water in 2 years or less. Go here if you would like to support this proposal with your signature: gopetition.com/petitions/support-lionfish-populat...ication-methods.html

It’s nice to see folks are engaging and coming up with ideas to encourage others to go after the lionfish. Here at Blue Water Escape Charters we are marketing lionfish eradication trips taking folks to the reefs with dense lionfish populations. Our customers love it! So it’s a sustainable attack on the invaders. During the off season, we plan on cleaning all our honey holes and eating a dump truck load of lionfish ceviche. Hopefully we can run a few eradication charters this winter to help out with the cost.

Hi Water Ninja!
Awesome that you cleaned the Monica Lee. I was the reef deployment director for that reef. My avatar is the Monica Lee on the day we sank her.

If you like our proposal, please sign the petition in the post above. Thanks!
