Owner Manuals for Dive Computers in PDF

Has one noticed that you can’t bookmark, high-light or select text in the PDF versions of dive computer owner manuals. This isn’t good for trying to use the document that is complex enough and on top not being able to bookmark, high-light or select text.

The PDF manuals I’ve seen online seem to be images of text and not searchable text. I wonder if a Sherwood or Aries dealer can get a version of the manual that is searchable from the manufacture. I think it’s silly that the manufactures don’t make these manuals readily available on their websites.

Adobe Reader does not let you create bookmarks, but you can have software remember the last page that was opened by the PDF reader.

1. In Adobe Reader, go to Edit / Preferences or CTRL + K .

2. Click on Documents under the listed categories on the left.

3. Check the line that says : Restore last view settings when reopening document. Click OK and exit.

I have a newer updated manual for the Oceanic NEO regs somewhere on my external HD in PDF form. They gave the old manual with the reg set and I emailed Oceanic and they sent me a new one.

The point is that these manufacturers are supplying us with a owners manual that does not allow us to be able use it effectively in the pdf format. What do we have dive societies for if they cannot be an advocate for divers rights?

EskimoBluDay, I know they are password protecting the documents for sure but to bookmark and high-light does not change the document. We need a scuba diver lobby to bring up issues that affect divers, I was thinking about maybe PADI Society doing this. Also like carrying pony bottles on cruise ships since dive operation usually don’t have them would be another issue to fight for.

EskimoBluDay this isn’t my first priority, I just want all to have a pleasant experience learning how to use their computer.

The writers decide what the passwords do within the pdf documents.
