Going to Florida the week of 4th of July to dive the wrecks. Can you come out and play? :)

If not, got any suggestions on wrecks?

I`m planning to dive Panama City area and the Oriskany the same week. I`ll be there on the 28th of June through the 3rd of July. I have a contact in Panama City that dropped the anchor right in the cargo hold of the Black Bart. hehe

You should dive the Oriskany in Pensacola. Also lots of good wrecks in the Keys if you are going that far south

The plan is to fly into Ft. Lauderdale and drive down south toward the key. The Oriskany sounds really good!

There are a lot of nice wrecks between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, but due to the proximity of the Gulf Stream, you are diving in some pretty heavy current. They do a lot of drift diving on the reefs in the area. There are a few deep wrecks in the upper Keys. The Spiegel Grove is the big attraction. A Navy LSD at 130 FSW. The Duanne and The Bibb are also in Key Largo. Lots of others and soon they will be sinking an old Naval Radar Ship, The Vandenberg, in Key West. Good Luck and enjoy the trip.

The Oriskany is in the north west end of Florida, about 550 miles south of us. We be glad to have you it about 10 hr drive. South Florida and the key has great diving.

The Oriskany can be a great dive and a challenge. I recommend MBT divers to go out with. If you are not to that level (although beginners have been known to go), The Spiegel Grove is a good, usually relaxing deep dive with minimal currents. The Duane is good but can have ripping currents. Ocean Divers is a good outfit for these two wreck dives in Key Largo.

We dive the Pompano wrecks all the time, Anything from 60’ - 260’ and will probably be there around that time.

What is your interest / cert level? When you say wreck, are you looking for an exterior survey or to pennetrate?

Okay, reporting back...

I looked at the Oriskany and it’s way to far up north since I’m flying to Ft. Lauderdale. So, we’re looking to dive the Spiegle Grove, the Duane (?) and others south towards the keys.

Let me know if you would like to come join us and we’ll coordinate.

Happy Diving!!! :)

I live in Naples and will be in Key Largo that weekend and I love diving the Spiegel and Duane. Most operators will only do a 1 tank dive to the wrecks and then a shallow reef. But I know 1 operator who has a 6 pack and will do a 2 tank wreck dive with a 1 hour surface interval. All we need is 6 people so count me in if you are interested.
