Grand Cayman

We just got back from a week in Grand Cayman. We stayed at Morritt’s Tortuga Club and dove with the on site Tortuga Dive Shop. Morritt’s is on the East side, and we were totally disappointed with the diving. This trip was not to be an eat, sleep, dive as we wanted to revisit the turtle farm, go for the first time to the botanic gardens, etc. We signed up for only 6 dives for the week and ended up canceling one. WE canceled a dive...totally unheard of, but it was so awful, we didn’t want to bother with the last dive. No color, few fish and hard getting back on the boat do to huge swells. I have heard SO many people say how good the diving is, there, but apparently we weren’t diving in the right places We did see one moray eel...the highlight of the week. Other than that, it was extremely bland. The timeshare was great, as was the entire resort, but would NEVER go back to dive!

You must have been diving in the wrong places...I just got back from Grand Cayman two weeks ago and the diving was good. I dove on the western and southern sides of the island via Sunset House and saw loads of neat things. I will post pictures in the near future so you can check out the other side of the island.

Sorry your dives where not that good.I have been to the west side by Georgetown. The marine life is not as good as some other places but the coral and wall was pretty good.We saw a turtle which was great. If you like to see a lot of marine life Cozumel has a lot and the prices are great.I would not give up on Grand Cayman just yet.Try a different area and see how that goes.

Well, we spend 2 weeks, every August, in Little Cayman with a large group of divers and we are NEVER disappointed. Spotting 6 different turtles on one dive is not unusual, several rays- sting and eagle, and one dive we saw a reef, nurse and lemon shark. Didn’t realize Grand Cayman could be SO different!

Here’s the link to my photo album on facebook...I can post way more on there than I can on here. If you have difficulties viewing the gallery, let me know and I’ll set it up on my webshots account, and I’ll post the link on here later

I followed that link, but, because we are not FB friends, I couldn’t access them.

Will do that. Actually, we were trying to use a space bank timeshare week, and Morritt’s was the only one available. Oh well, we had a nice time otherwise, and my husband won a Red Sail catamaran sunset cruise, so that was a bonus. Never would have paid for it!
