The springs of North-Central Florida offer spectacular diving in placid, clear pools with visibility no less than 100 feet and water temperature of 72 degrees year round. The springs are made up of the most pure water boiling up to the surface making their way to the many rivers in Florida’s north central region. It is these springs that draw so many divers each year to explore the many sinkholes, underwater limestone caverns and caves. Many of these unique dive spots offer easy diving opportunities for beginners to explore these crystal clear springs. In addition to awesome diving, this region of Florida is home to the endangered West Indian Manatee. The gentile giants move here during the winter for the warm waters. This is one of the last places in North America you’ll be able to interact with these lovable animals. Our trip is based out of the Best Western Resort in Crystal River, Florida, centrally located among Florida’s best in-land dive sites. The first morning you will get up close and personal with the endangered West Indian Manatee. Snorkeling allows this amazing interaction. After lunch we are on our way to the Rainbow River, a gin clear river with visibility exceeding 150 feet! Later, we’ll explore Devils Den, an underground lake, and Blue Grotto, a crystal-clear sinkhole with a maximum depth of 100 feet! This unique cavern is set up to allow beginning divers opportunity to safely explore this cavern. This trip is perfect for training. Each location we use enables us to complete your certification dives in an environment that is truly unique. In addition, you may opt to do your Advanced Open Water, Rescue or Cavern diver! A couple important items: A car is a must! Many sites are up to 30 minutes from the hotel. The closest airports are Orlando (MCO) and Tampa/St. Petersburg (TPA) and are about a 90 minute drive to Crystal River. Other activities available are sea kayaking, snorkeling or just chillin’ out. Crystal River is a nice small town great for afternoon strolls. The trip costs $399/diver ($300/snorkeler). Training fees, if any, are additional. For more information, call us at (703) 263-0427.
