White Stone Diving aka Dive Haven - White GA

Loading...
A flooded rock quarry in north Georgia. Visibility is dependent on depth and time of year. It is typically best around 50 FFW but chilly. It is an excellent location for training in particular advanced training such as low vis, deep diving (down to 165ft), and trimix. They have picnic tables, some with pavilions. They have above and below water platforms, & recently installed changing rooms, with hot showers and restrooms. They have rental facilities, air and nitrox. Lots to see underwater, bus, truck, crane, statue & fresh water fish and turtles. Average vis is 10 to 15 feet, if the silt is not stirred up.

Hey Instructors and Shop owners. This site is back open (under new management and operation standards). My name is Brian and I am coordinating this summer’s operation. The site is for INSTRUCTION only! We have dropped the fees from $25PP/PD to $20!!! Instructors and certified assistants are free, but must still sign waivers and rules.

If you want to take your students (OW, Advanced, Deep, Dry Suit, Nav, S&R, Rescue, PPB, and many more), give us a call or drop an email. We will send you PDFs of the forms necessary to use the facility.

This is from their FACEBOOK page:
October 13th & 14th, will be our last weekend. Brenton and I wanted to say thank you to everyone for the
last 6 years. You all have become a large part of lives and family.
This was a hard decision for us not for the closing of the business, but
because of all of you our extended family. Please come out Saturday,
October 13 for a farewell celebration. We will be open until 10pm for
night diving. Sunday we close the gates for the last time at 4pm.
Thank you again and God Bless!! Love You All!!

WHITE STONE QUARRY IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS. THEY SHUT THE DOORS AT THE END OF THE 2012 DIVE SEASON AFTER HAVING ANOTHER SETBACK BY LOSING EVERYTHING IN A LIGHTNING FIRE! INSTEAD OF TRYING TO REBUILD, THEY DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN.

RUMOR HAS IT THEY WILL OPEN ANOTHER DIVING SPOT IN A NEARBY AREA...

Did our Nav dives here and a fun dive after class. Cool things to see, pepsi machine, old van, sunk boat. Vis was very low at around 5-7’ and did get worse when folks didn’t watch their fins and disturbed the bottom. Therm was at 15’ and went form high 70s to around 65. Not a problem with a suit.

Last time I was there the Viz dropped to 5’ at 60’ and then opened back up to 15’ at 130’, there is absolutely no light below about 90’. I found a late 50’s vette in 157’ last fall. The water temp was in the low 40’s at 140-160’+.

Last time I was here the average water temp was 66. It was reported to me by one of my group that the thermocline was around 40feet, with a temp drop to about 59. The vis was 10 to 15 feet when the silt was not stirred up. I saw quite a lot of fish, and they were very active and curious of us. Oct ,08

For the past two years Dive Rite has held their Tech Tour at this location.

Unfortunately I missed it this year...

This quarry stays pretty cold, most everyone wears 5-7ml or dry suit.
