Las Palmitas is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Isla Iquana, Los Santos, Panama. The maximum depth is 36-40ft/11-12m. The average visibility is 31-35ft/9-11m.

There were quite a large area of coral heads with significant life around them.
It’s a bit murky but I was astonished by the amount of different types
of fish. One large cluster of coral heads was sheltering a group of 6-7 Black Tip Reef Sharks asleep on the sandy bottom. Most were under the heads with only their tails sticking out.

We also saw turtles, butterflyfish, parrotfish, trumpetfish, and many
others I do not know the names for. The guide told me their names in
Spanish but I can’t remember them. There was a very large school of Horse Eyed Jacks that swirled around us all during our deco stop. I stayed down several extra minutes just to watch them.

One thing I forget to mention was the surface interval on Isla Iquana. There is a long wide sandy beach with large Sqaure Crabs and many Hermit Crabs. The island is a protected nature reserve and there are thousands of Brown Pelicans, Frigates, and others. It was a great place to spend time wandering between dives.
