Lake Cumberland was created in 1950 by the construction of Wolf Creek Dam at a cost of $80.4M Cost to repair a leak in the dam (discovered in 1967) during the late 1970’s: $96.4M Primary reasons for construction were hydroelectric power and a means for flood control Shoreline measures 1,255 miles Lake spread over 65,530 acres Main lake is 101 miles long and over a mile wide at the widest point Over 1,500 houseboats float on Lake Cumberland.
