Lake Murray is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Columbia, SC. This dive site has an average rating of 3.00 out of 5 from 6 scuba divers. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.

Lake "Murky" as it is fondly referred to, is rich with adventures under the water. Lake many man-made bodies of water, the lake sits on what was several small towns until the late 1920’s. Consequently, there are cemeteries, a bridge, churches, and other left-overs to find.

Not to mention that the lake was used for air training in WWII, so you never know what else is down there

I went scuba diving here on 8/3/2019. Average viz: Under 5ft/2m. Water temp: 81-85°F/27-29°C.
Shore entry from Lake Murray Public Park. Did an underwater poker run about 50m from the shore for a breast cancer benefit with Wateree Scuba dive shop. Viz was terrible, but there were about 30 divers in a small area and it was quickly silted out. Not bad if you just want to get in and blow some bubbles or check out some equipment. The park is also pretty nice.

My wife is in the process of getting her OW certification and she is doing her open water dives at Lake Murray. I don’t know how it is away from shore or at depth because we’ve only been down to about 15’ so far but the visibility was horrible: 3’-6’. From what I understand it is always like that. But, I imagine it would be better out in the deeper areas.

Does any one have any experience with this site they would likek to share. I am intrested in this one but I would hate to be disapointed after driving 3 hours and find that the only thing left are a few ribs
