Alexander Springs is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 49525 County Road 445, Altoona, FL. This dive site has an average rating of 3.66 out of 5 from 35 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 21-25ft/6-8m. The average visibility is 91-100ft/28-30m.

Alexander Spring issues from a conical depression and has a large spring pool that measures 300 ft north to south and 258 ft east to west. The depth is 25 ft. The bottom is mostly sand with limestone exposed near the vent Scuba diving or snorkeling allows visitors to view the abundance of fish and underwater vegetation in the springs. Scuba diving is only permitted in the large spring boil and valid proof of certification is required. Alexander Springs, located in central Florida, is known for its safe open water dive. The shallow depths and small caverns make an for excellent novice dive. The spring basin is one of the largest I’ve seen, almost 300 ft. wide. While depths don’t exceed 27 ft,, there is a very small cavern to explore that make it an enjoyable scuba dive. Snorkelers can also enjoy the basin and freedive to most of the exciting parts. The main cavern can be penetrated for about 10 ft. at a depth of 23 feet. There is a strong flow at the deepest part from a vent. There is a lot of marine wildlife here and a chance you might even see a gator!

Saw an alligator which was a first for me, so that was pretty cool

Great training location. This is super clear water with lots of fish and wildlife. I went in fall on a weekday so it was completely empty save for me and an instructor. There’s nothing much going on that you’d go out of your way to dive here, but it was fun to swim under lilly pads and chase the fish and turtles. I cannot over state how clear the water is and how far you can see.

Super clear water and some cool fish in the water. Not super deep but still fun.

Good for OW training, sort of murky when other divers kick up the silt in the shallow.

First time at the springs, liked it a lot! Very clear water, occasionally messed up for a short period by group of divers scraping the bottom. String flow. Some fish at the shallows. Gator going for a swim back and forth along the far side a few times. Small cave room at around 20-25ft. If you dare, as a snorkeler you can squeeze alongside the large rock at the far end of the deep end through narrow crevice which exits to spring’ main bowl at around 23ft. Just make sure you have a safety watching you just in case!

I rated this a 5 because it’s a great spot for underwater photography! Although for a diver doing anything else your probably not going to see much. There is only one spot that goes down to 25ft where the spring head is along with a small cave. But you can come here for a great photo shoot!

Good viz. Reasonable entry fee. Great for testing out new gear or just getting wet.

Not as advertised. There is only a hole about 25 feet around that is deep enough to dive with the max depth being about 25 feet. Fine if you are a new diver or just want to get wet but if there are other divers in the water it is very crowded.

Curious to know what you read that was deceiving. 27 foot max depth is all I’ve ever read. It’s a great hole for play and the newly certified. Good picnic grounds, amenities, and photography. The cave system is off limits and requires a no-mount entry.

Great for just getting in the water. Cheap prices... I think it was $6.50 a diver. I am a new diver and also had new equipment I hadn’t used yet. Great viz. but not a lot to see there. Very comfortable and open environment.

Awesome spot for beginners even though it shallow. You can find some fossils some aquatic life and amber if you are lucky. Visibility is like 80-100’
