Decent quarry, especially if you’re on a budget.

My first open water dive. Perfect for a rookie such as myself.

I dove Hydes for the first time 2 weeks ago. Although it does not have any infrastructure (e.g., dive shop, fill station, showers), it is a quaint little quarry. You can circumnavigate the entire quarry in about 45 minutes and pretty much all attractions are in a small area (on a clock think of the space between 4 and 8). I think it’s a great location for Open Water dives and for brushing up on skills.

Viz was 50’+ and water temp above the thermocline was 74 degrees.

I would like to do some diving here, either Sundays or mid-week if I can find a buddy or a group. Thanks!

Temps at the bottom are still in the mid-40’s, but a thermocline is just starting to develop, meaning warmer water near the surface. Viz has been OK (for Hyde’s) untill some kicks up the muck.

The quarry will be OPEN FOR DIVING starting Saturday, May 2nd 2015 at 9AM!

I went scuba diving here on 7/20/2014. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: Under 50°F/10°C.
Nice dive site for beginners. Shore entry only, no platforms. Great to work on buoyancy and basic dive skills.

Unfortunate news: The quarry will be closing for the season on July 27th 2014. The County is going to conduct a recovery test as part of plans to use the quarry as a water source to allow new construction within the county and will be pumping 30 feet of water out.

Quarry has a website (disclaimer: I set it up.) Trying to keep it up to date with info. hydesquarry.com

Thinking of hitting Hyde’s on 5/19 - mainly just getting experience in on the new drysuit.

Regular "just need to get wet" dive site for us. Mostly wet rocks, but beats being on the surface.

This is my favorite little local dive spot! I can’t wait to visit this summer :)
