Mala Ramp (Lahaina Pier) is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Maui-Lahaina, HI. This dive site has an average rating of 4.10 out of 5 from 29 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 26-30ft/8-9m.

This dive is located on the wreckage of the old Mala pier, which was destroyed during a storm in the early 90’s. Corals and fish have since taken over the wreckage of the pier, and the odd turtle can be found. Enter at the boat launch and swim around the breakwater. All of the interesting stuff is to the north of the remaining pier (i.e. where the wreckage is). Avoid swimming under the remaining pier as there is little to see and many swimming hazards. The wreckage itself is covered in corals, and most species of Maui’s reef fish can be found here. Bring a light as there is a lot to see under the wreckage, including some reef sharks resting in the deeper depressions under the wreckage. This dive is less then 30’ in depth, with great visibility. This site is not sheltered so it should be avoided during periods of heavy surf. Bathrooms and an outdoor shower can be found by the parking lot. Directions:
This site is located to the south of Mala Warf. Take highway 31 to Lahaina, and turn onto front street at your first opportunity. Follow front street to the access road for Mala wharf. If coming from the north this is immediately after the Lahaina Cannery Mall. Park in the parking lot. Access to the site is from the boat ramp.

This is a great place to dive where your going to see plenty of turtles as the furthest point out in the collapsed pier is a cleaning station for the turtles.

Lots of turtles, black tip reef shark on the first dive. Second dive saw 3 white tip reef sharks (one was big, about 5 ft), and some more turtles.

a bit of silt covering the reef. had a couple turtles follow us around to get cleaned. saw a couple sharks trying to rest under the concrete slabs, so we had to harass and chase them around. can see how people say this is the best shore dive on the island.

I went scuba diving here on 5/13/2016. Average viz: 51-60ft/16-18m. Water temp: 76-80°F/24-27°C.
This was a great dive. Conditions were great, visibility easily 50ft, very little surge, the entry isn’t difficult but it has to be taken slowly, it’s a 50-100 yard walk in 1-2 ft of water over rocks and rubble before you can float and put on fins. A lot of marine life, turtles, eels, frogfish, white tips, trumpetfish, lots of endemic fish and the usual reef fish. Some cool structure and swim throughs as well. Definitely consider doing this dive if visiting Maui.

The old pier has collapsed into the water and provides good structure for aquatic life. Saw a large white tip reef shark, various eels and several old turtles. Great location. Good shore dive or can access by boat.

The Eagle Rays are great and the turtles become your dive buddies. Love this dive.

Great visibility, cool challenges though not particularly deep. Great for a two dive day. Is a hangout for black tip coral reef sharks.

Very fun and easy dive spot! Lots to see...fish, turtles, the old ramp wreckage that was taken out by a hurricane and you’re more likely than not to see a reef shark down there.

Great dive...I highly recommend it!
