Lush Resort on Possum Kingdom Lake was formerly called Scuba Point (an old scuba park) before being redeveloped into a kind of restaurant on the lake with extras. It has NICE and CLEAN bathrooms, beach, dock, boat/jet ski/lake equipment rentals, pool, limited bar, many nice areas to hang out in, and a lake side shower to wash the lake water off. There are hotel rooms under construction that are almost completed. There’s a food truck sometimes but the owners may make you a burger if it’s not available. There’s no scuba specific support available but the owners are fine with using their property as a launching point. It’s $5 for a day pass. Beers were $5, burgers were $5, and sodas were $2. The dives were good by lake standards. Fresh water species such a bass, carp, perch, and catfish are common. Bring a torch and thicker wet suit for deeper dives. There’s lots of things to explore in that part of the lake. There’s an underwater forest that attracts fish and a long wall with lots of overhangs and mini-caves to explore. Lush Resort is a very pleasant place to hang out for a few hours and do some dives.

I went scuba diving here on 10/13/2015. Average viz: 16-20ft/5-6m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Dives 297 and 298 completed. It observed shallow areas that were dry just a few months ago. It’s interesting seeing what is essentially a new ecology becoming established. Various things are in the process of recolonising freshly submerged areas. Some of the shallows are thick with what is probably crayfish nest/holes if that is what they are. I also saw some sort of quarter sized crab hiding in a crack. There are signs that there are other critters hiding under the rocks and in cracks in the rocks. This would be an interesting place to do a night dive when they possibly come out of their holes. I want to see it again after some time has passed.

It’s still warm above the 35-40ft thermocline. A thicker wet suit and a torch is required to go below the thermocline for any significant length of time. Numerous fish are still very active. There’s lots of things to explore in that part of the lake. There’s an underwater forest that attracts fish and a long wall with lots of overhangs and mini-caves to explore. No doubt there are many more things to explore but I only could do two dives today. I barely scratched the surface of diving activities to do there. I collected some of my favorite items: scuba weights, golf balls, and the biggest anchor (and 100’ of chain and rope) I ever recovered. James was very helpful in recovering the anchor.
