Slabs aka Double East? is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Atlantic City, NJ. The maximum depth is 71-80ft/22-24m. The average visibility is 21-25ft/6-8m.
Remains of wooden barge, probably a retired schooner with a load of granite slabs. Think sides of buildings, not kitchen counters! Most wood parts have rotted away leaving a small boiler probably from a steam powered crane, a steel box that may have been the cook stove and a capstan. Lots of hiding places among the slabs for lobsters :)
Once while leading a student on a tour I followed a line in the sand out maybe 150’ from the slabs and found a virgin wreck, a gaff rigged coastal schooner, maybe 65’ long, ribs just above the sand, belaying pins and mast hoops lying within the hull :) RayC
In the early 70’s we (Atlantus divers club from Pa. on Capt. Clover’s boat) had a strange encounter. Some divers saw the fishs head and others on the other side of the wreck saw a long tail which made it at least 20’ long. NJ viz being what it is no one saw both ends at once. Since Oar fish tend to swim vertical this one must have been sick to be this shallow and horizonal under the slabs. I was having camera issues and didn’t get a photo. It wasn’t until years later when I saw a photo of one that I knew it was an Oar fish, we were thinking some kind of eel. RayC
This is right near the Astra, Sea Girt and San Jose so was usually one of the dives along with those.

Double East
The wreck known as the Double East are the remains of a wooden barge carrying a cargo of large granite blocks. The remains of the wooden hull can be seen surrounding the blocks and provide good hunting for lobster. The granite blocks rise 15’ from the bottom stacked so that fish can easily swim in between. The wreck lies in 75’ of water 7 miles off of Holgate, NJ.
