Went with American Pro Divers on their snorkel with the Manatee and PADI Manatee awareness specialty certification. It was super fun. In winter there’s thousands of them. In mid August it’s really hard to find any. We lucked out and swam around with a mother and young playful and engaging baby manatee. This was no diving as it’s generally prohibited outside of a small beach area used for open water students’ first dives, that isn’t compelling with no manatee and questionable vis. It was a fun experience. I’m glad I did it.

Love snorkeling with the manatee. Not so much with the other three thousand people trying to see the same thing as you.

Bright sunny day and tons of Manatee to interact with and crystal is a great description of the water. Lots of shallow water but tons of fish. Pet the Manatee’s belly and get a big surprise.

Nice that the Florida Legislature saved the Manatees from almost certain extinction! They may be the first protected species, by a democracy, in the world. Must do snorkel trip.

Went here 8/1/14. Saw a fair amount of Manatees, which is good for summer, though you’d better be patient, as the viz is mainly poor. We ended up at a very clear spring and had some time with a docile youngster. A couple of us then dove a nearby cavern but aborted because we didn’t have enough lights. So we hung out outside the entrance and enjoyed the fish and crabs. Guide was Cory from American Pro Divers, whom we recommend

I dove here Mar 1, 2013. Visibility on the bay was not too good but there was an extra friendly, juvenile manatee, that just made our day. Attempted our first cavern dive, but again, visibility was so poor my buddy and I aborted our dive. Within 30 seconds the other divers in our group surfaced and we just hung out on a rock near the surface and chatted while our guide retrieved our dive line. We all agreed, that’s just what it’s all about. Enjoy the dive but also enjoy the excellent company. I hope we can come back here someday when the visibilty is better. Highly recommend heading out while the tide is going out to increase the likelyhood of good visibility.

Stayed and took grand kids on snorkel boat with Birds Underwater. Great trip and they are very customer oriented. Had a small manatee come upto grandson and then me putting its nose right up against our masks. It kept returning for 30 minutes of back scratching.

My wife and I also dove the King’s Spring. We actually like the manatees better than dolphins. Be sure to take the Manatee Unique Specialty to learn all about these animals.

Remarkable experience, which I’d rate higher if there would be less people. Expect to be stepped on, etc
