Cavern Diver Class
Educational - Posted on 11/9/2009 9:11:55 AM by DivingFirefighter
Hey everyone! Been a while since I’ve been on.. been even longer since I wrote a blog! This past weekend I did part of the dives for my PADI Cavern Diver specialty. We did two dives on Saturday. I learned some things besides the Cavern stuff. One I learned that even if a diver had more experience then you and more dives doesn’t mean they are a better diver or even a good diver. The diver in question was nervous as part of his personality which didn’t help is comfort level in the water. On at lea...

First Dry Suit Experience - SeaSoft
Equipment - Posted on 11/1/2009 9:04:33 AM by aa3sc
Last night, I had a chance to take the dry suit class with Off the Wall Scuba. They recently got 3 new SeaSoft dry suits in their rental program and I was looking forward to trying them out. I find myself doing a bit of local quarry diving and the idea of a dry suit was looking appealing. But given the cost of a dry suit, I really wanted to try before I buy. Prior to the class, the only other dry suit I had tried on was the Whites Nexus 3 suit. It was OK. Again, it was my first ti...

Saga of the new diver continued
Event - Posted on 10/31/2009 11:13:09 PM by Silvertongue
Well, it was a beautifull October day. A lovely day for a quick shallow dive to do some pumkin carving. She was sooo looking forward to this, especially since it was the first time she actually gets to use her new "Malibu Barbie B.C." (yeah, she’s small) she was ready to go when I pulled in. Yeah, so, it was a little windy but that’s what wet suits are for right? We showed up at the Lake of Dreams campground (late of course) and pulled out are gear and started getting our gear ready...

Cozumel - 26 Oct 2009
Dive Trip - Posted on 10/27/2009 12:04:40 AM by jfhuard
The weather was fantastic today in Cozumel. Air temp mid-80 but very humid. Sunny and calm seas. The water is warm, 83F, and a 2mm shorty is almost an overkill.... Can you imagine I showed up here with a 5mm. I was told a few weeks ago that the water was getting colder and it was time to dig out the 5mm.... That was probably only for a couple days before the current heat wave... This is our first day of diving with Alison and Carlos this week. They’ve painted the Maximus earlie...

Hello all, Going on my first Megaladon shark tooth dive in North Carolina November13th-16 can’t wait, anyone have any input, techniques, or suggestions. This will also be my deepest dive to date so I’m open to any suggestions on that also. I will be going with East Coast divers out of Hagerstown Maryland. It has been suggested I jump on a nitrox cert. before going due to the deep diving. Gary from www.eastcoastdiverllc.com is going to help me out with that. ...

Beach & Underwater Cleanup
Event - Posted on 10/23/2009 9:55:23 PM by seejork
Our very first attempt to organize the cleanup for Project AWARE. Although little time has been spent in organizing the event, the turnout was more than what we have expected. Local government (Saudi Arabia) representatives witnessed and provided their support for the cause. A total of about 60 bags/sacks of garbage has been collected both on shore and underwater keeping our scuba training area clean. On behalf of PISD, we thank and congratulate everyone who p...

Cozumel September 2009
Dive Trip - Posted on 10/17/2009 4:42:38 PM by bjones
I spent at week in Cozumel (Sept 26 to Oct 3). I stayed at the Scuba Club Cozumel and had a great time. It was so off season that there was only me and two other couples for most of the week. We just hung out together. It made for a very uncrowded dive boat. For me the diving was some of the best I have every done. The group even did the C-53 wreck; a new experience for me going inside. I know that Cozumel has been reviewed before but I want to say that the boat crew, dive ...

Monterey Bay - Aug 29-31, 2009
Dive Trip - Posted on 10/14/2009 8:04:39 PM by jfhuard
Diving in Monterey Bay area was fantastic. I rented tanks & weights, got fills and hired a local dive guide from the Monterey Bay Dive Center (MBDC.com) across the San Carlos Beach Park. DMs Chris and Tamin, and owner Jim Field are great local guides. The plan was to do 2 dives on Saturday and Sunday. I ended up staying an extra day to dive at Point Lobos on Monday and doing a total of 8 dives over 3 days. Point Lobos is booked months in advance, so early planning is necessary ...

Event - Posted on 10/14/2009 1:41:54 PM by Greg
TrashFest 2009 was once again, awesome. It’s unbelievable how many shoes, cans, other trash, etc people leave behind on purpose or by accident. DiveBuddy.com promotes the TrashFest pretty heavily each year and we’re proud to have won 1st Place in the Aggregate Weight category with 2002 lbs., that represents over 40% of the overall weight this year! GO DIVEBUDDY!!! We had a great group of DiveBuddy members join Becky and I. We thank ALL of you who came out to join our team ...

Rincon de la Vieja
Other - Posted on 10/12/2009 1:47:05 PM by Richcoast
Last Sunday we went to Rincon de la Vieja with almost all the Rich Coast crew. The reason for this adventurous day trip was Brenda’s birthday. Well, it was actually her pre-birthday party since her birthday is not untill the 21st of October. However we had a blast! We rented a little bus, and left at 7am from Rich Coast. Our first stop was the McDonalds in Liberia. We had to pick one of our instructors up and we were a little bit faster than expected so we had some time to drink a...

Saturday morning tease
Event - Posted on 10/10/2009 11:02:45 AM by TColJeep
Stayed up late Friday night putting my gear together and making a few adjustments to my equipment. My drysuit seemed to also have a small seepage in the neck so I checked it out and found a pinhole in the back of the seal. Since i was meeting the boat in about 5 hours a quick fix with some neoprene cement would have to do. After catching a few hours sleep it was time to head down to the docks to meet our dive boat. At 66 degrees it was a warm morning for October and the clouds where breaking, pr...

October Cozumel
Dive Trip - Posted on 10/8/2009 1:19:29 PM by carpenterobueno
Okay, I leave for Cozumel tomorrow morning. Our flight leaves at 9:30am, but I think we are shooting for a 7:30am ETA. We’re staying at the Wyndham, so hopefully the stinky is gone by then. Also it’s supposed to rain the whole time I’m there. That shouldn’t matter too much when you are under the water, but it may hinder my ’adult’ recreation plans (bar hopping). I failed to find out about internet access at the resort, but hopefully I can get on at some point to let the fam...
