Wow what a weekend, This was a very challenging course to say the very least. I have a whole new respect for cave divers after this course and a new outlook on how I will be diving from now on. It made me look at gear differently as well. I actually lost over 12 pounds during the course. So at the very least it is great for weight loss. Not my gut but the amount of weight I dive with. I enjoyed Ginnie Springs and was impressed by the visibility there. The spring flows out at 35 million gallons p...

I wanted to poll the vast Jury here on Dive Buddy and see if any of you have taken PSI, Professional Scuba Inspectors classes. They offer certifications for Visual Inspections, Valve Repair and Oxygen Cleaning (Nitrox Tank Preparation) and Gas blender classes. I was wanting to know what anyone thought about these classes that has taken them. Or if you know of any other certification agencies that offer these classes....

Gilboa World Record 2010! and Contest Gilboa World Record 2010! and Contest
charstew - 7/21/2009 5:00 PM
On Saturday July 18, divers from all over the country came together at Gilboa Quarry in Ohio to set a new world record, only to fall short. In 1996 a diving record was set off the coast of India, in the Indian ocean. the record was 978 divers submerged at the same time in the same area. (from Hobies Blog) I want to see all of my buddies there next year! 1st Prize West Virginia Scuba Divers Club will pay the sign-up fees for the person who recruits the most divers to join West Virginia Scuba Dive...
Bad Air Fills? You tell me...
charstew - 7/15/2009 9:10 PM
I am a little perplexed. I got a tank from Todds Scuba at Twin Quarries in Circleville, OH. It was brand new and never filled. I was going to put it in service for Nitrox but I needed it on Sunday while I was there so I had it filled twice. I dumped the air and looked inside the tank and saw black spots all over the inside. The date the tank was made as 06/09 and a visual of 7/09. Black spots, correct me if I am wrong; are from a compressor throwing oil into the air. Does this mean that I should...

This is my Dive Buddy and good friend Hobie Brewer. While we were at Cozumel last week Hobie got a call from his wife to come home. I could not even imagine having the time of my life diving and finding out this horrible news. Hobie has a little boy named Sammy. He is 7 months old and was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer. This specific liver cancer is so rare for children that only 1 or 2 cases are identified each year nationally. On this Tuesday morning, June 23rd, little Sammy will undergo s...

Great Mask Great Mask
charstew - 5/27/2009 8:42 AM
One of the best masks I have had for the coins is the Crystal Vu by ScubaPro. You can get them with or without a purge. You can get it under 50 bucks with shipping and all. I have bought more expensive masks that I didn’t like. I didn’t like the Mares Demon mask for example. It must have been made for someone with a really large nose. The visability with the crystal vu is the best. It fits my face well and doesn’t leak. The purge makes mask equalization a breeze. Let me know what you think if yo...
Mares Abyss Reg Issue Mares Abyss Reg Issue
charstew - 5/11/2009 10:25 AM
Over the weekend I dove with my Abyss Reg set at Fantasy Lake. My octopus is also an abyss with a yellow purge button. As it happens to all of us my octo fell out of its keeper and it was dragging a bit in the sand. It had small grains of sand between the purge button and metal ring. Of course the purge button is on a spring to allow it to return to closed after purge. The sand had lodged the metal ring loose and popped it off. This metal ring also holds the diaphragm protection screen on. After...
What did you see in fools gold
charstew - 3/31/2009 7:37 AM
Fool Gold the movie. I loved this movie and have watched it more than once this winter while dreaming of being in a warmer climate. One thing I noticed right away was that almost all of the equipment used was Mares which happens to be my favorite. I noticed the accent rate in the very first scene when the boat sank. They came up nearly as fast as their bubbles. What are some things that you noticed?...
WTB a Dive Camera
charstew - 3/30/2009 12:55 PM
What dive camera do you carry? I am looking to upgrade to a better camera and don’t want to spend more than 1000 bucks. Which ones are best? If you are selling a decent camera let me know. I am looking at no less than 8 mega pixels My mini-reefmaster is horrible and I will be selling it on E-bay....
