How Secure is Your Password
Greg - 11/14/2013 7:29 AM
It is a good idea to have "strong" passwords...ones that can’t easily be broken or cracked. It’s also a great idea to use different passwords on different websites. Here are two sites that allow you to check the strength of your password. I would not recommend typing in your actual passwords into either of these sites...but some variation of it to get the general idea. Microsoft’s Password Checker: https://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/password-checker.aspx How long would it take to cra...
Use the Scuba Calendar Event Map to help plan your next dive trip Use the Scuba Calendar Event Map to help plan your next dive trip
Greg - 7/17/2013 10:52 AM
Next time you’re planning a dive trip, consider using the Calendar Event section on DiveBuddy.com. One nice feature is the Event Map at the bottom of an event page. The Event Map will list the event location (center of map), along with the location of each member that has RSVP’d. If you can not see all member locations, simply zoom out a bit on the map. Here is an example of a scuba event organized on DiveBuddy.com: http://www.divebuddy.com/event.aspx?EventID=60814 If you scroll to the bottom of...

Greg - 2/21/2013 5:02 PM
Dive clubs can use DiveBuddy.com to increase membership, organize events, share photos and communicate with members through comments/messages. Any member of DiveBuddy can add a dive club, however, we recommend that only a club manager or officer first add the club profile. Any member of DiveBuddy.com may request to join a dive club. A dive club profile includes the club name and logo, dive shop association (if applicable), location, cost, contact information, website address, and description. We...
New Forum Categories: Art and Sharks New Forum Categories: Art and Sharks
Greg - 12/04/2012 8:39 AM
Now you have a place to put your Art and Shark photos on DiveBuddy. Any art (drawings, paintings, sculptures) related to the ocean, underwater, scuba diving, marine life, etc...use the Art category when sharing a photo. If there is a shark in the photo, use the Shark category (even though a shark is a fish, they deserve their own category). If you have previously shared photos related to art or sharks, please edit the photo and update the category. This will help all of us find the photos we’re ...

Embedding Videos
RonSubmerged - 9/30/2009 2:55 PM
Hi everyone. I have finally uploaded a few videos to the site since getting my Intova IC10 camera a few weeks ago. I wanted to share with all who do not know, how to embed a video to be able to watch it when a fellow Divebuddy wants to view your videos. 1. Go to the Quick Links drop down menu located in the upper right hand corner of the web page. 2. Choose Add New Video, which will take you to the correct page. 3. Choose a Video name. 4. Locate the video you want to share, for example a youtube...
Website Update - Recent Virus Issues
Greg - 8/28/2009 9:18 PM
Hey dive buddies! Many of you have sent us emails regarding issues with the website today. Thank you for staying on top of this and helping out. After researching the matter, we discovered that someone implanted some script into various places in our database. This is a malicious attack that can only be thwarted and not completely prevented. Many websites suffer from similar issues and the best course of action is to develop code and procedures to reduce the problem, which we did when we first c...

Greg - 5/10/2009 10:14 AM
I have several restrictions put in place to help minimize the amount of spam received through DiveBuddy’s message system...but that doesn’t protect us all of the time. If you happen to receive a message through DiveBuddy that appears to be spam, visit the offending member’s profile and click the Report link (only visible if you’re logged into DiveBuddy). See the image in this blog for an example of where the Report link is located. By reporting a member, you have essentially cast your vote to ha...

Blog changes: larger photos, re-arranged text Blog changes: larger photos, re-arranged text
Greg - 1/30/2009 1:41 PM
I’ve increased the size of the default photo when adding a new blog. When viewing all blogs in the main list, any pictures are still shown with a max of 200px wide...but when you view a single blog, the default photo will be up to 500px wide. I also re-arranged the text around the blog so it looks more like an article. Hope you like it :) Later, Greg DiveBuddy.com...
