In case anyone near Pennsylvania is curious about some local dive sites, check out Willow Springs in Richland, PA. It is a 25 acre, 55 ft. max depth, limestone quarry lake with several easily accessible deep water entry sites. The grounds are very nice with a nice bathroom/shower facilities, plenty of picnic tables, campsites for tents, rv sites with electric, and a couple of rustic log cabins to rent. There are plenty of wrecks sunk in the lake at various depths, take a look at the map, and training platforms at various depths. The visibility can vary from a few feet to 20 feet dependant on weather conditions, previous divers disturbing sediment, and algal blooms. It’s great for navigation training. Fishing is also allowed from the shore for those divers camping overnight. The fish population is tremendous. It is a very productive lake. There is a dive shop on site where you can get airfills, rent gear, or purchase new equipment. It’s a very nice peaceful place that doesn’t get overcrowded and is great to stay overnight to have a campfire and a few drinks and grilled dogs and burgers after a full day of diving. I have been going there about every other weekend and sometimes Thursdays and Fridays too, so if anyone needs a buddy or a guide, give me a shout.

In the seventies I went there on a regular basis, our LDS used it for training and I did my one and only ice dive there and that was before drysuits were dry! Glad to hear they made some improvements, back then we used an old school bus to change in.

Here I am getting ready for a poker run dive at Willow springs in 1971
