I am currently an applicant with the Guilford Association of SCUBA Personnel , GASP. It’s a volunteer special operations unit, rescue and recover, for Guilford County Fire Dept. We had training last night in High Point, NC at the Oak Hollow Lake sailboat ramp. It was a joint training operation with HPFD. Training was as follows: 1. Established underwater communications unit and assigned roles. 2. Suited 3 GASP divers and did 2 conical search patterns. Water was in the 60’s and all divers had dry suits. Air was cold enough to see your breath. I was the line tender for the divers and my hands were numb after handlning the cold wet line. One of the new divers had a swivel gasget blow on his full face mask/regulator, luckily it happened on the surface while I was pulling him into the dock. We quilckly turned off his air and removed his mask. The team has found mutliple stolen cars durring training dives at this location, none last night though. The team is on stand-by to assist a search going on in Rockingham County, NC for an elderly man that has Dimentia and walked off Sunday night.
