Summersville Lake in Summersville, WV is the cleanest clearest freshwater lake east of the Mississippi River according to "Skin Diver Magazine." The lake has a depth of 300+ feet with visibility during the on-season summer months of June thru September of 20-40+ feet depending upon rainfall. If we get heavy rains, the visibility can drop anywhere from 10 to 15 feet. Surface temperatures vary from 70-78 degrees in June to 80-85+ degrees in July - September.
Summersville Lake is an oligotrophic lake characterized by steep rocky cliffs that run from 75 feet above the surface to 100+ feet below the surface. Diving provides cliffs, huge boulders, overhangs, swim-thrus, stumps, and assorted fiish.
