Cool New Scuba Gear: Scuba Series HD 720p (a camera mask)I’m not sure what you think about this, but I think it’s pretty cool! I like having my hands free when diving. This mask includes a digital camera built in. It uses an SD card for storing photos (5.0MP) and video (HD 720P), it’s rated to 40m/130ft, uses 4 x AAA or Lithium batteries, and lasts up to 2 hours before replacing/charging the batteries.

I like the concept of taking photos or video through the view of the mask. I suppose it would take some getting used to as I’m sure I move my head around quite a bit so that might make for some hard to watch video.

From manufacture’s website:

-

The mask features lever style buttons which are easy to press while wearing diving gloves. To record a photo or a video, simply turn on the camera, choose the mode, then press the shutter button. LED lights inside the mask indicate the mode to the user. The buttons are positioned along the upper right corner of the frame and area easy to access. The goggle lenses are made of tempered glass and have integrated crosshairs that help you to line up shots.

I’m not so keen on combining technology with simple equipment, if your camera breaks, it would be kind of weird to continue using it as a mask. But if money was not an object (costs around $350), I wouldn’t mind owning one of these. At least for my good dives. Plus it’s really tech looking and I’m sure all the ladies would want to talk to me about it :)

Just don’t drop this on the ground. I saw a guy with one on a beach dive and he dropped it and the parts went everywhere.

This would be okay for a video record of the dive but with stills you need to get really close to your subject. Do you really want your nose that close to a spotted moray? For those of you who don’t know, they seem to have more of an attitude problem than green morays.
